On the top portion of the outer ring, two images of a maple leaf appear within the line pattern. A banner at the bottom of the outer ring bears the inscriptions “BILL” and “REID” in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Haida artist’s birth, while “2020” is centred between two security marks that consist of a maple leaf within another maple leaf. The selectively coloured $2 coin features the same reverse design encircled by a ring and enhanced with red, white and black. Both versions feature the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt on the obverse.

2019 Everlasting Queen Elizabeth II 50c Glow 2019 100'000 35.96 35mm Troy Ounces

Everlasting Canadian Icons starts with carefully selected brilliant uncirculated examples of each one of the classic denominations for 2019: Beaver 5 cents, Bluenose 10 cents, Caribou 25-cents, Loon dollar and Polar Bear two dollar. But there’s one more piece…For the special 50-cent coin, the Royal Canadian Mint has gathered the Beaver, Bear, Caribou and Loon and sent them on a little adventure to discover Canada. The colour image shows them looking in every direction beneath a blue sky, while the maple leaf stands tall in the background. When you view the coin in the dark, that same sky is lit up by the Northern Lights. And the proud maple leaf from the daytime scene still there. This special issue half dollar coin is only available in this collector set. 1937 is the year the beaver, caribou and Bluenose first appeared on Canada’s coins. Fifty years later (1987), the loon landed on a new dollar coin. And in 1996, Churchill the polar bear made his big debut on the “toonie.”
50 Cent Design
The design by Darren Booth features Canada’s classic circulation designs re-imagined in a modern illustration style. The 25-cent’s caribou joins the two-dollar coin’s polar bear, which stands at the edge of an ice floe. The dollar’s loon flies across the blue sky, while the ten-cent’s Bluenose sails on the sea. The five-cent beaver looks up at the big proud red maple leaf in awe. When the glow-in-the-dark feature is activated, the characters all become silhouettes against the night sky, where the maple leaf is faintly visible against the glowing aurora borealis. The reverse includes the engraved word “CANADA” and the date “2019”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

With its formidable rack of antlers, the caribou stands tall as a timeless emblem of our wildlife heritage. The classic Canadian icon commands attention on the reverse of this fine silver coin, where clean lines give the design a modern edge while placing the focus squarely on a culturally important species.
Designed by Steve McPhee, the reverse presents a contemporary portrait of the caribou in the Canadian wilderness. The carefully sculpted ungulate is positioned slightly left-of-centre, where it strikes a majestic pose as it turns its head and looks towards the right side of the coin. Viewed in side profile, the caribou’s rack of antlers adds to its imposing stature, with the main beam rising skyward while the brow-tines point forward above its muzzle. The stylized rendering of the landscape provides a simple yet artistic backdrop, while the brilliance of the engraved elements is enhanced by the coin’s specimen finish. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Spirit of Canada

They are the timeless scenes that have come to represent Canada: the rugged coastline; the lakes and forests that give it a wild, untamed quality; the agricultural landscape of the Prairies; the Rocky Mountains that once made the land seem unfathomable; and the Arctic emblems of “the True North strong and free.”

From one coast to another, Canadians share a common iconography that powerfully reflects our history, geography, and natural legacy. Each of these visual elements carries deep meaning; when combined together, they convey the soaring spirit of a nation, and inspire everlasting pride among the diverse people who call Canada “home.”
